On December 5, 2024, the Cavite State University Naic Research Development and Extension Services (RDES) Unit hosted the 2024 Annual In-House Research and Extension Conference, with the theme “Bridging Worlds for a Sustainable Future: Collaborative Innovation Across Technology, Industries, and Education.” The event took place across various venues on campus, including the Conference Room at the AquaBEST Building and the STAR classroom. Faculty researchers and extensionists of CvSU Naic gathered for the in-person event to showcase their research and extension projects while engaging in knowledge-sharing and discussions with fellow researchers and industry stakeholders.
The conference began with two impactful lectures. Dr. Lysia V. Comia from Batangas State University delivered a presentation on utilizing Large Language Models (LLMs) to drive sustainable innovations. Dr. Comia emphasized the potential of LLMs in applications such as data analysis, language translation, chatbots, and idea generation, while stressing the need for responsible use to promote sustainability. Ms. Mica Ella O. Perez from the University of the Philippines Institute for Small-Scale Industries followed with an insightful talk on the importance of professional development, ethical research practices, and stakeholder trust in driving impactful research and extension projects. She also highlighted the role of Extension in filling gaps in community needs by benefiting students, farmers, workers, and disadvantaged sectors.
The conference was structured to include both plenary and parallel sessions, offering participants opportunities for in-depth exploration of diverse topics:
- Session 1: Faculty researchers presented proposals and completed projects, fostering constructive feedback and discussion.
- Session 2: Innovations in agriculture, fisheries, and biodiversity were highlighted, showcasing advancements in these critical fields.
- Session 3: Social development and equity-focused research addressing societal challenges were emphasized, particularly in community development initiatives.
- Session 4: Presentations centered on smart engineering, ICT, and sustainable technologies, focusing on creating innovative solutions for a sustainable future.
In addition to the engaging sessions, the event also recognized the outstanding achievements of CvSU Naic faculty in research and extension. The Research Excellence Awards were given to individuals and teams for their remarkable contributions:
