Intellectual Property (IP) Unite | The CvSU Naic Research Development and Extension Services (RDES) Unit successfully hosted the Intellectual Property (IP) Unite: Patent Search and Drafting Workshop on December 3-4, 2024, at the RDES Room. This two-day, in-person event brought together faculty members to deepen their understanding of intellectual property (IP) and its crucial role in protecting and commercializing research innovations.
The workshop featured two esteemed experts in the field. Dr. Teddy Tepora, Head of Intellectual Property and Technology Business Management, delivered insightful lectures on IP fundamentals, filing procedures, and the complexities of patent drafting. Meanwhile, Ms. Sheryl D. Fenol, ITSO Technical Staff, led sessions on patent search techniques, guiding participants through tools such as Google Patents, PatentScope, and Espacenet.
A key highlight of the workshop was its hands-on training, where participants explored patent classification systems and conducted searches for similar inventions. They also drafted their own patent applications, which were reviewed and refined in interactive sessions.
This initiative underscores CvSU’s commitment to fostering innovation and sustainability by equipping its academic community with the knowledge to protect intellectual assets and explore commercialization opportunities. The workshop not only strengthened participants’ expertise but also contributed to CvSU’s mission of advancing research outputs to support sustainable development.
