The meeting was convened by the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) together with their partner government agencies and organizations with the aim of establishing the Fisheries Management Area (FMA) for the conservation and management of Philippine fisheries. Such approach is designed to delineate Philippine waters in reference to fish stocks’ boundary, range and distribution. This concept has been formulated to promote science-based, participatory, and transparent fisheries management also known as Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM).
