Quarterly Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill at CvSU Naic | On March 20, 2025, Cavite State University Naic participated in the Quarterly Nationwide Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED) organized by the Disaster Intelligence Warning and Alerting Center. Mandated by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) through Memo No. 27, s. 2025, the drill aimed to enhance earthquake preparedness and response capabilities.
The drill began at 2:00 PM, with CvSU Naic faculty, staff, and students actively participating. Led by Campus Safety Officer Mr. Allan C. Guanlao, the event aimed to enhance the community’s preparedness and response to seismic emergencies using the AREA A protocol.
The drill began with the Alarm phase, where a fire alarm sounded for 1-2 minutes, signaling the start of the simulation. During the Response phase, participants swiftly followed the Drop, Cover, and Hold procedure, protecting themselves under sturdy furniture until the alarm stopped. Once the alarm ceased, they moved into the Evacuate phase, covering their heads and proceeding to the designated evacuation area in an orderly manner.
After reaching the safe zone, the Assemble phase took place. Participants gathered in their assigned groups, and a headcount was conducted to ensure everyone’s safety. Finally, during the Assess phase, the disaster risk team evaluated the effectiveness of the drill, identifying strengths and areas for improvement to enhance future earthquake response strategies.
The AREA A framework effectively reinforced earthquake preparedness by promoting safety, coordination, and continuous improvement. The drill served as a vital exercise in strengthening the university community’s resilience against potential disasters.
CvSU Naic’s participation highlighted its commitment to disaster preparedness and community safety. By consistently engaging in such initiatives, the university strengthens its resilience against natural disasters. Regular drills and training sessions will continue to equip students, faculty, and staff with the necessary skills to respond effectively during emergencies.
